It never gets old hearing or talking about people helping people, or in our case REALTORS® helping others.

Recently, for the fourth consecutive year, the Newmarket Century 21 Heritage Group has won the team spirit award for the Heart & Stroke Foundation’s York North BIG Bike fundraiser. The riders hopped aboard the group bike and took to the pedals on June 9 to have fun with colleagues while raising funds for life-saving research in support of the Heart & Stroke Foundation. The team was the first real estate brokerage to participate in the Newmarket fundraiser. The brokerage has joined in on this event since 2008, raising $11,839 in the first four years and $3,867 so far in 2012 — for a grand total of more than  $15,000 overall.

The brokerage’s goal this year was to recruit 15 members to participate and raise at least $3,000, and it achieved both goals. Last year, this event raised more than $7 million across Canada for research into heart disease and strokes. For details on the brokerage, visit http://www.newmarket.me/.

And they weren’t the only one!

Participating in two fundraising events, members of the REALTORS® Association of Hamilton-Burlington (RAHB) recently putted and paddled their way to help build better communities.

The annual RAHB Charity Golf Tournament was held on June 14.  With over 130 golfers and sponsors they raised $15,300 to support RAHB’s Home Ownership Affordability Partnership (HOAP) and the Karan Barker Memorial Scholarship Fund- which provides scholarships to the children and grandchildren of RAHB members and RAHB staff

“These two causes are near and dear to us…we are grateful our members, colleagues and sponsors continue to support them year after year.” ~ RAHB President Cameron Nolan

The RAHB Charity Golf Tournament has raised over $197,000 in support of local charities since 1997. “Getting out to enjoy a day of golf was great, and the best part was knowing we make a difference in the community and in the lives of our young people” added Nolan.

From land, RAHB went straight to water for the Lively Dragon Waterfest dragon boat races at Bayfront Park in Hamilton on July 7.

For the second year, RAHB’s dragon boat team joined over 50 others to race and raise funds for the Bay Area Restoration Council (BARC). RAHB’s 2012 team members raised $1,000, and in total has now raised over $7,200 for BARC.

“This was a great opportunity for the REALTORS® Association of HamiltonBurlington and its member REALTORS® to demonstrate their commitment to building better communities,” said RAHB President Cameron Nolan. “BARC’s work in and around the Hamilton Harbour and watershed protects the natural environment, which improves quality of life for residents and others who use and enjoy the area.”
